Stone Cold Steve Austin’s Career
Steve Austin was born in Texas and spent most of his childhood there. Austin got a scholarship in football at Wharton County Junior College, followed by his scholarship in the University of North Texas. Shortly, after some time, he decided to carve his career into wrestling and he started training at the wrestling school run by Chris Adams. He made his world debut under his original name, in 1989. In 1993, he formed a tag-team with Brian Pillman, called The Hollywood Blonds, which won the WCW World Tag Team Championship. In 1995, Austin was fired by WCW Vice President Eric Bischoff, claiming Austin to be an “unmarketable” wrestler. Eventually, Austin was signed by Paul Heyman of Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), as an in-ring interviewer. His journey with WWF started in 1995, where he initially used to fight as “The Ringmaster” for a year. Austin’s career began to take a new direction in 1996 with King of the Ring. During his time in WWF, Austin had feuds with many co-wrestlers, but this was the phase when he earned his mainstream success and recognition. Gradually, Steve Austin’s fans began to perceive him as a beer drinking antihero, and an insolent personality. However, Steve retired in 2003 but appeared off and on in matches of WWF as a special guest referee. He has been honoured with a number of accolades, like PWI Wrestler of the Year (3 times), WWE Hall of Fame (Class of 2009), Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame (Class of 2000), Wrestler of the Year (1998), WWF Championship (6 times), PWI Most Popular Wrestler of the Year (4 times).
