Danica Patrick met Paul Hospenthal while undergoing treatment for a hip injury. Paul, who is a physical therapist in Scottsdale, is 17 years older than Danica. In 2004, on the day of Thanksgiving, he proposed to her. The couple maintained a healthy relationship and got married one year later. Danica reportedly changed to Catholicism after marriage, in 2005. The couple had no children. After serving seven years of marriage, the couple filed for divorce. According to the documents presented in the court, the couple had signed the divorce agreement prior to marrying in 2005. On 11th November 2005, eight days before their marriage, they signed the prenuptial agreement. In addition to this, Danica stated that she would not require any settlement money after divorce.

In November 2012, just one day after their wedding anniversary, she announced her divorce with Hospenthal. On 15th April 2013, a judge signed the consent decree for ending their marriage. The couple wanted to have an amicable divorce. The divorce was presented in a family court of Arizona. Arizona is a state where no reasons are required for divorce. There were no unpleasant incidents of domestic violence. The divorce decree stated that the marriage is permanently ended, and there are no possible chances for a settlement. The divorce verdict also stated that the property and debt are equally & fairly divided. The divorce was finalized in April 2013.

Danica compensated all the fees related to divorce filing and mediation. She thanked Paul for making her learn about business. She also mentioned, “This isn’t easy for either of us, but mutually it has come to this. He has been an important person and friend in my life, and that’s how we will remain moving forward.”

Reportedly, she is dating Ricky Stenhouse Jr., the NASCAR Nationwide Champion. She told about her relationship with NASCAR driver to MenHealth.com that, “I don’t think it was a good idea. [But] there was nothing I could do about it, you can’t tell your heart who to like and not like. It just happened.”

She stated her feelings after divorce at the Richmond International Speedway and said, “To be honest, it’s my life. … I’m just relaxed. I feel happy. I feel like I’m just enjoying my life. It makes me smile to talk about (Stenhouse).”
