#6 Roky Erickson
Roky Erickson is a popular American singer, songwriter, guitarist and harmonica player. Best known as the pioneer of the psychedelic rock genre, he founded the band “13th Floor Elevators”. He developed paranoid schizophrenia in 1968, due to which, he was hospitalized many times. He was given Thorazine treatments and electroconvulsive therapy. After releasing from the state hospital in 1974, he formed “Bleib alien” (a band). In 2005, a documentary depicting his life was made, which is called “You’re Gonna Miss Me”.
#7 Elyn Saks
Law professor, Elyn Saks, specializes in mental health law. She is also well-known as a legal scholar. In her autobiography, “The Center Cannot Hold: My Journey Through Madness”, Saks has described her decade-long battle with schizophrenia. In 2009, she received a “genius grant” of $500,000 as a MacArthur Foundation fellow.
